2011 - 2012 Rules

Basically all the Definitions, Violations Fouls & Penalties apply as written
In Addition, the WAA has adopted several other rules, which will be applied as follows:
- 2- 20 minute Halves (5TH-9TH Grade Boys and Girls)
- Clock runs for the first 18 minutes of each half (except Time Outs)
- Official Time is kept for the last 2 minutes of each half.
- 3-4 Boys and Girls play (4) nine minute quarters. Clock stops last min. of 2nd and 4th quarter
- Overtime is 2 minutes with stop clock
- 2 time outs a half (use them or loose them)
- All Players MUST play a minimum of 20 minutes per game. Substitutions are the responsibility of the coach.
- Each Team MUST supply a parent for the Scorers Table (Clock & Book) and Hall monitor for one half of the game. No game will be started if there is not a parent present.
Pressing – going over the ½ court line
Grades 3/4 - Not Allowed
Grades 5/6 - Not Allowed, until last 2 minutes of each half
Grades 7/9 - Always Allowed
Upon 20 Point Lead (in last 10 min of second half) – Scoreboard to be shut off (time
and books still kept) Winning team must play defense inside the 3 point line
Forfeits – if a team has less than 4 players at the start of the game, the team
has 15 minutes after the start time to gather a fourth player. Splitting of Teams or
taking another player from another team is acceptable, but the “official” win goes
to the team with adequate number of players.
Additional Rules Outside the Game:
- No one is allowed on the court during ½ time or time outs – except teams playing
- No kids are to be running around in the hallways
- No bikes/skateboards/scooters/additional balls are to be in the school OR Gym\
- Kids are not to be left unsupervised
Tournament Code of Conduct
The following Code of Conduct is supplemental to the existing and in conjunction with the WAA Basketball Code of Conduct. This Tournament Code of Conduct is to be signed by all parents of Tournament Players and Coaches.
- Tournament tryouts will be posted prior to the try-out dates.
- All active (must have played in 50% of WAA games to date) participants of WAA Basketball are eligible to tryout for tournament play.
- There will be a minimum of one try out per division.
- There will be a maximum of three tryouts per division.
- If there are not enough players to formulate a team, a team may not be formed for that current year and/or specific tournament.
- If there are not enough players to formulate a team, the WAA Basketball Board may advertise for additional tryouts if an interest pursues and/or at their own discretion.
- Parents, players, and coaches ARE STRONGLY advised of different playing time allotments per individual players, which differ than the WAA Recreation Basketball Standard Rules.
- Tournament play is at a much more competitive level. Playing time is subject to the Tournament Coach’s decision.
- Parents, players, and coaches MUST REALIZE that at the tournament level NO PLAYING TIME IS GUARANTEED. At the Tournament Coach’s discretion a player could possibly sit the bench for the entire tournament.
- The WAA Basketball Board has no authority in allotment of individual playing time but does encourage coaches to utilize all participants particularly in lopsided victories and/or losses.
- The WAA Basketball Board shall appoint tournament Coaches.
- Coaches are to use fair and unbiased evaluations at tournament tryouts.
- Tournament Coaches may conduct closed practices with prior approval of the WAA Basketball Board.
- Verbal and/or physical abuse of players, coaches, parents, officials and/or WAA Basketball Board members by players, coaches, parents and/or WAA Basketball Board members will not be tolerated.
- Verbal and/or physical abuse by players, coaches, parents may result in expulsion from tournament play of any and/or all of the players, coaches, and parents and/or children of the parents or coaches at the sole discretion of the WAA Basketball Board.
- Verbal and/or physical abuse by WAA Basketball Board members may result in expulsion from tournament play of the WAA Basketball Board members at the sole discretion of the WAA Executive Committee.
- If expulsion from the tournament occurs any monies put forth as part of participation will be forfeited.
- Any participant who is serving a suspension or expulsion from WAA recreational play is ineligible to participate on a WAA Tournament team while suspension or expulsion is active.
- The WAA Board has exclusive rights in determining if any fees will be incurred by participants.
